I work to empower at-risk communities to become places of hope and opportunity.

I care about our city and our community! I created We Can build United to help bring people and resources together that can help it fulfill its potential and become a place of hope and opportunity. I believe that as we come together, build relationships, and share what we have, we will be able to revitalize our community. Each member of our community deserves the opportunity to live a high quality of life. Through our care and concern for one another, we can see this realized. The old adage that says “many hands makes the work light “ is applicable here. The more people that we have connected, informed, and contributing what they have in our community, the more needs we will be able to meet. We will come to find that we aren’t powerless, but that we are powerful. We will see that we can create a future that is big enough for each person to take part in. We will see that together, we can build an amazing community full of hope and opportunity.

My name is Jessica Shittu, Founder and Executive Director. I am a Native of Houston, who has worked in education for the past eight years, and I am also a current doctoral student at the University of Houston. My passion is to connect with people and share experiences. In addition, I enjoy eating good food and learning new skills when I am not busy working or in school.
